Tallahassee may be in Florida, but that does not always mean it's warm. Because of its Northern Panhandle location, winters in Tallahassee have cold nights with cool days, so be sure to pack for cold weather. An extra sweater never hurt anyone! Don't be fooled by the Floridian tropical vibe.
This city is not a pedestrian-friendly place. Some areas of the city are more conducive for walking than others. Downtown, Midtown, and Lake Ella are probably the most picturesque and convenient for walking.

Things to do in Tallahassee:
For a little bit of history and cultural roots, you can visit the Mission San Luis de Apalachee. Missions are huge tourist spots because they offer a complete experience and you can live in the past for at least a little while. Here, for example, you will go all the way back to 1703 and walk down the plaza where the Apalachee played their ball games. For a little bit of history, before your visit: "From 1656 to 1704, San Luis served as the principal village of the Apalachee and was the Spaniards' westernmost military, religious, and administrative capital."
For some more history, the landmark Tallahassee Museum sits on 52 acres of native fauna and flora. Consistently ranked as one of the state’s top museums, visitors are encouraged to discover Northern Florida’s rich history and natural environment. Major exhibits include native gardens, nature trails, and 14 historic buildings from the 19th century.
While at the Refuge, check out the St. Marks Lighthouse, a National Historic Landmark that has been guiding nautical traffic around the mouth of the St. Marks River for over 150 years.
