Oklahoma City, frequently shortened to OKC, is the capital and largest city in the state of Oklahoma. Its city limits extend into Canadian, Cleveland, and Pottawatomie counties, even when much of these areas outside the core of the city are considered rural or suburban places.

Oklahoma City lies in the Great Plains region and has one of the biggest livestock markets, composed by oil, natural gas, petroleum products, and other related industries profitable for the local economy.

The weather in Oklahoma is what may be considered extreme, with a really active and severe weather season that goes from March through June, particularly during April and May. Also, it is a zone predisposed to tornadoes and strong hailstorms. In any case, this city is located in what is known as Tornado Alley. However, the city is heavily protected and prepared for that kind of events, so you should not worry about this.

With plenty of things to do in Oklahoma City, you can find a wide presence of parks and recreation places, museums, theaters, sport events, and gardens for tourists and locals to visit in their spare time.

The Oklahoma City Museum of Art located at the Donald W Reynolds Visual Arts Center has numerous art exhibits. The main attraction is Dale Chihuly’s Glass Exhibit with beautiful and amazing lightning that will guarantee a very remarkable experience.

If there is a beautiful place to visit for proud locals and tourists is the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum, with two zones to visit. The first is the Outdoor Symbolic Memorial for a quiet reflection. The other zone is the Memorial Museum for a deep insight into the events of the Oklahoma City bombing back in April 17, 1995. This place is considered “a symbol of strength in the wake of unspeakable violence.”

If contact with nature is your passion, you definitely must come visit the Oklahoma River and its different attractions, being one of the best places to spend time outdoors. It has numerous activities and places around it, such as restaurants, hotels, and more. As part of the outdoor activities, visitors can rent kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, and water bicycles, as well as giving a try with dragon boating.

The SandRidge Sky Trail and Slide is an adventure course of 80-foot extension of safe climbing while fastened in with a harness. To get down from this amazing view, you will need to slide down the Sky Slide or have even more fun dropping through the Rumble Drop.

There is a new addition to the city’s recreational programs- a bike-share experience called Spokies Program where you can explore downtown while riding a bicycle. Have fun on a 30-minute ride, stopping throughout the central part of the city and getting to know its main spots. After that, just return the bike to any of the kiosks and relax from your adventure.

Other interesting places worth mentioning are Lake Overholser Boathouse, Stinchcomb Wildlife Refuge, and Lake Hefner. Take the Lake Taxi along the Bricktown Canal to learn more about the city’s unique history, feed animals at the Oklahoma City Zoo, or take your kids to CurioCity inside the Science Museum for a taste of the wonderful world of science.
