뉴욕 주의 도시 Niagara Falls 시는 한글로는 주로 나이아가라폴스 라고 널리 표기하지만 발음에 따라 나이애가라폴스 라고 표기되기도 한다.
나이아가라폴스 (Niagara Falls)는 미국 뉴욕 주 서부 나이아가라 군에 있는 통관항으로 나이아가라강 (Niagara R.)에 인접해 있다. 캐나다 (Canada) 온타리오 (Ontario) 주의 도시인 나이아가라폴스와 마주하고 있고 두 도시를 연결하는 다리가 2개 있는데, 그중 유명한 것은 폭포의 바로 밑에 있는 1941년에 완공된 레인보다리 (Rainbow Bridge)이다.
북아메리카에서 가장 큰 폭포인 나이아가라폭포가 가까이에 있는 잇점으로 관광업이 지역경제를 지탱하고 있으며, 폭포를 보러 해마다 몇 백만 명의 관광객이 찾아든다. 호텔•토산품점•박물관 등의 관광시설이 완비되어 있고 조수보호공원 등 주립공원도 많이 있다. 나이아가라 특별보호구역 주립공원은 프로스펙트 공원 (Prospect Park)과 루나 섬 (Luna Island), 고트 섬 (Goat Island)과 이보다 작은 여러 섬을 비롯한 나이아가라 강변지역을 포함하고 있다.
이밖에 터스커로라 인디언 보호구역 (Tuscarora Reservation)이 북동쪽에 위치해 있고, 교육기관으로는 나이아가라대학 (Niagara College)이 있다. E.I.뒤퐁드느무르앤컴퍼니 (E.I.du Pont de Nemours and Company, Inc.)•나비스코 (Nabisco)•올린•굿이어타이어앤드러버 (The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company and Subsidiaries) 같은 대기업의 제조시설도 입지해 있다.
