Whenever we think of New York we tend to imagine tall buildings and very crowded places full of construction, but you will be surprised to know that about 27 percent of Syracuse's land area is covered by trees- maple trees, cedars, and buckthorns from Europe. Syracuse’s main water source comes from the Skaneateles Lake, which happens to be one of the cleanest lakes among the New York’s Finger Lakes. So far, this place looks like a fairy tale!
Here in Syracuse, you can enjoy some jazz because this city welcomes two annual outdoor live jazz festivals: the Syracuse Jazz Festival and the Polish Festival. The music here is a huge deal- did you know that Syracuse was home to the 75-member Syracuse Symphony Orchestra, founded in 1961?
This is a very artsy place, so of course you are going to find tons of museums and galleries to enjoy time among masterpieces. Among the museums and galleries list you'll find:
The Everson Museum of Art: the place that features one of the biggest pottery collections in the USA.
The Erie Canal Museu: a place that is dedicated to the preservation of the importance of the story of the Erie Canal in Syracuse's development.
The Milton J. Rubenstein Museum of Science and Technology: a place to enjoy the many wonders of science.
The Onondaga Historical Association Museum & Research Center
And the Waterhouse Gallery where new contemporary arts found a place to be shown!
If you are into a wilder experience, you can always go to check out the Rosamond Gifford Zoo, which is among the top 10% of zoos in the country and is dedicated to connecting people to the natural world. The zoo is now home to approximately 700 animals on 43 acres. It doesn't matter the time of your visit because this place is open the whole year! Here you will find tons of exhibits (indoors and outdoors) they even have an amazing Penguin Coast where you can watch the penguins as they dive, swim, and waddle about their exhibit.
For a vintage and tasteful experience, you can delight yourself at the City Market. Ceramics, vintage clothing, furniture, home decor, handmade crafts, and antiques are just the tip of the iceberg as to the items available.
While you are here in Syracuse, you can check out the Palace Theater website to check out their upcoming events and enjoy a divine experience in this very sophisticated and old ambiance that will make you feel like in the 20's.
For a more outdoorsy experience, you can walk through the Onondaga Creekwalk. Providing a serene yet urban setting, the trail is currently complete from the historic Armory Square district in Downtown Syracuse to the southern shore of Onondaga Lake.
