Welcome to the Memphis community!

Memphis borders the Mississippi River, which is why this place has been a perfect location for settlements throughout the years. The Chickasaw Indian tribe occupied this location until a group of French and Spanish explorers arrived here during the 16th century. As they set their foot here, they noticed the presence of the tribe.

Memphis is famous for being the hometown of the king of rock Elvis Presley. This is the place he also chose to build his mansion, Graceland. He is a legend among tourists and locals.

The climate here is known for being humid and subtropical. This means they have their 4 distinct seasons. Winters are cold and windy and summers can be hot and humid. Thunderstorms are frequent during summer, but usually brief, lasting no longer than an hour. Autumn is drier and very mild, so this might be a great time to visit and enjoy the city.

The city has a very huge and notable celebration called Memphis in May that includes a series of events that have the only mission of promoting the city's heritage. The four main events are the Beale Street Music Festival, International Week, the World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest, and the Great River Run. If you love barbecue and pork, then you must visit during this time of the year, because this is the largest barbecue contest in the entire world.

Being so close to Nashville, you might think that these cities might have a similar music style, but the truth is that Memphis is the home of various American music genres like soul, blues, gospel, and rock n' roll.

While you are here, you can visit the National Civil Rights Museum that is located in the former Lorraine Motel that is the exact same place where Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated in 1968.

If you are an Elvis fan, you can go through some of his stuff in Graceland by taking the very popular tour. While you are freely going around his mansion you will be able to enjoy tons of memorabilia, personal pictures, costumes, shiny jewelry and his very big automobile museum that features a 1955 pink Cadillac. Sweet!

This activity we are about to share with you is probably one of the coolest things that you will experience during a trip. Of course, if you are into music. But then again who isn't? This is the perfect place to shimmy and shake while you roll through Memphis to know the place a little better. Local musicians lead the way on a fun-loving ride through musical Memphis, complete with live music and tambourines, shakers and bongos for all to enjoy.

As a part of this tour, you will get to visit the very popular Beale Street, Stax Studio, Lorraine Motel, and tons of iconic places. Memphis is a musical place, so if you are planning a visit you’d better prepare to shake your body and delight your ears with pure melody!
