알라바마 주의 도시 Birmingham 시는 한글로는 주로 버밍햄 이라고 널리 표기하지만 발음에 따라 버밍엄 또는 버밍험 이라고 표기되기도 한다.
The city is famous for being a major center of activity during the Civil Rights Movement in the 1950s and 1060s. During his time in prison here (for taking part in a non-violent protest), Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. wrote his famous “Letter from Birmingham Jail” letter defending his strategy of non-violent protests against racism.
Birmingham is also known for being the place where the headquarters of two of the largest soft-drink bottlers in the United States. If you come here, you will find the Buffalo Rock Company, known for their former and very popular drink, ginger ale. Nowadays, Buffalo Rock is just a major bottler for all the Pepsi Cola Company products. Also here is the Coca-Cola Bottling Company.
Birmingham has a cultural movement going on. They have the Birmingham Museum of Art, that happens to be the largest art museum in the Southeast, and they also have tons of new galleries and theater companies in the downtown. You can also find the iconic Alabama Theater here.

If you are looking forward to having some museum kind of fun, you need to start with the Birmingham Museum of Art. This is a huge place with a very modern structure that will captivate you at first sight! You will find everything here, art from different cultures, modern and classic art, paintings, pottery, sculptures and more.
For a little more relaxed museum vibe you need to check out the McWane Science Center, especially if you are traveling with kids or if you are feeling like one. This place has four floors of interactive exhibits for kids and grown-ups. They have everything from an IMAX dome to a shark and ray touch tank, a Vulcan dream machine, a lab, a bubble room, dinosaurs, and a high-wire bicycle that is suspended across the lobby.
For the adults and speed lovers, there is the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum. This place has a HUGE motorcycle collection. It's so massive that they were even recognized by the Guinness World Records as the largest motorcycle collection in the entire world. Can you believe they have over 1,400 motorcycles? This is definitely a place to start your engines!
You should end your trip with a visit to the Birmingham Zoo for a close contact with nature. They have a collection that gathers animals from all of the continents.
