This is a city composed of a 45.1% of white people, 34.1% of black people, 0.8% Native American, 4% Asian, 1.4% Pacific Islander, 7.9% from other races, and 6.7% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race represent 22.9% of the population.

This place is also known for being the location of the Luby's massacre, a mass shooting that took place on 1991, at a Luby's restaurant in Killeen. Luby's is a very popular chain of cafeteria-style restaurants that operate in several Texas's cities. This massacre is ranked as the 4th deadliest by a single shooter in the USA. George Hennard, drove his pickup truck through the front window of the restaurant, and immediately shot and killed 23 people, and wounded 27 others before fatally shooting himself.

Killeen is also known for being the place where Fort Hood operates. The post is named after Confederate General John Bell Hood. Did you know that Fort Hood is the largest military base in the world? At least by area, it is- it has more than 215,000 acres.

During World War II the War Department needed a wide-open space to test tanks and to train soldiers. In April 2014, the Fort Hood website lists 45,414 assigned soldiers and 8,900 civilian employees with Fort Hood covering 214,000 acres. 

But that is enough about shootings, military, and stories- there is also a list of nice places you can visit once you are here in Killeen. If you like water you can visit the Lions Club Aquatics Park, a place filled with pools, slides, and tons of fun for kids and, of course, grown-ups. If you want to leave the kids home or if you are traveling without them you can plan a visit to the Stillhouse Wine Room. This is a place to enjoy fine wine, beers, and tapas. You will have a very nice experience with tons of options to drink, eat and live music. The perfect ambiance!
