Alexandria is a city that has been completely influenced by its proximity to Washington, D.C. This is why this place is populated by citizens working in the federal civil service, in the U.S. military, or for one of the companies related to the government

Welcome to the Alexandria community!

Old Town is Alexandria's historic center. This is a lovely place with a very nice offer of boutiques, restaurants, antique shops and tons of theaters. This is definitely a hot spot for tourist and for people who live here. Like Old Town, many Alexandria neighborhoods are compact and walkable.

Neighborhoods in Alexandria include Old Town, Eisenhower Valley, Rosemont, The Berg, Parker-Gray, Del Ray, Arlandria, West End, North Ridge, and Potomac Yard.

Parades and events in Alexandria
Alexandria is known for its Scottish Christmas Walk, an event that involves a parade through the popular Old Town and celebrates the Scotish heritage of the city. This is a very nice time to visit and a great spectacle to be part of. People here also go all the way to celebrate St. Patrick's Day and the birthday of George Washington. You can plan a new years party here and take part of the "First Night Alexandria" which presents much family-friendly entertainment on New Year's Eve.

Alexandria's Landmarks
You will be amazed by the very numerous amount of landmarks that you will find here:

Once you are here you can enjoy a visit to the George Washington Masonic National Memorial, that is a very important building and memorial that honors the first President of the United States and a Mason. The tower replicates the Lighthouse of Alexandria (one of the World's 7 wonders) in Egypt. It was designated a National Historic Landmark back in 2015 for its architecture.

There is also the Little Theatre of Alexandria. The theatre was founded by Mary Lindsey in 1934 and was originally known as the Peacock Players. It has since staged more than 350 productions. You might also want to check out the Alexandria City Hall that was listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 1984.

You can also have a lot of fun while visiting some nice touristic places like:
Torpedo Factory Art Center: this place is home to the nation’s largest collection of working-artists’ open studios under one roof. You can see the actual process of art creation going on, here you will find over 80 artist studios and enjoy their artwork in a wide variety of media–including painting, ceramics, photography, jewelry, stained glass, fiber, printmaking, and sculpture.

Oldtown Alexandria: this is definitely a must if you are planning a visit. There is so much to do here. Enjoy this nationally designated historic district founded in 1749 that George Washington called home.

Carlyle House: John Carlyle, was a wealthy merchant and a founder of Alexandria. Today, Carlyle House is one of the nation’s finest examples of Georgian residential architecture. If you enjoy architecture and history, this is a place you should put on your list.
